HOLEP stands for Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate. It's a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition where the prostate gland becomes enlarged and obstructs the flow of urine. During HOLEP, a laser is used to precisely remove excess prostate tissue, relieving urinary symptoms such as frequent urination, difficulty starting or stopping urination, and weak urine flow. HOLEP is considered effective and safe, with fewer complications and a faster recovery compared to traditional surgical treatments for BPH.
